This would be the last time a hardcover in this line would be reprinted and we can’t figure out why? Why were only 1st edition “Two Doctors” target books sent to the US and not available in the UK? The hardcover run will end in the middle of 1988 so how are sales? US distribution happened for most of these titles affecting their value. Tony Whitt, the host of the Doctor Who Target Book Club Podcast, offers insight into the actual novel of the story. Join us on this continuing adventure! Doctor Who Target Book Club Podcast

Welcome to the DOCTOR WHO TARGET BOOK CLUB PODCAST, the podcast in which we undertake the [insert adjective here] project of discussing, in story order, all of the DOCTOR WHO novelizations!

Last time Eric Saward squared off against the New Zealand Doctor Who Fan Club, it didn’t go so well for him. What about this time? Has Saward learned from the excesses that laid RESURRECTION so low? Has the NZDWFC provided us a better read yet again? Come listen as Tony Whitt, Dalton Hughes, and Alyson Fitch-Safreed debate whether a bunch of references to tinclavic and Terileptils actually make for a worse novelization.

He’s a classic fan. She’s a new series fan. Nathan and Juliette venture through time and space to review every episode of Doctor Who and tell each other why they should appreciate each and every era.

Doctor Who Literature

Doctor Who is not just one of the world’s longest-running science fiction TV shows, but it’s also generated a prolific amount of tie-in books, often with strong literary merit. Join Jason from the Trap One Podcast on a journey through the Target novelizations, in publication order. Every week there’s a conversation with a guest, a breakdown of that week’s book, and a trivia game.

The novelization of Vengeance on Varos was published two years behind schedule, meaning that book number 106, which was skipped in the Target Doctor Who novelization release order in 1986, is belatedly plugged in — immediately after the previous two novelizations were both assigned number 127. Got that?

This week’s Doctor Who Literature guest is David Barsky. David and Jason have lots of TV and international travel to discuss. And, occasionally, Vengeance on Varos, a controversial story and a novelization tending towards the… verbose.

Sound clips in this episode include:

–The 1969 Encyclopedia Britannica short film adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery“;

–A Season 3 “Simpsons“ riff also on “The Lottery”;

–“Family Guy“, like David Barsky, did not care for The Godfather;

–The venerable U.S. game show “The Price is Right“, which has been on the air since, like, 1911, has memorable sound bites here and here.

Not heard in the episode, but highly recommended, is both the trailer for and the movie LOCK-UP (1989), starring Sylvester Stallone (not McCoy), the late Donald Sutherland, and the late John Amos (whose death was announced the day this episode was recorded).
